Though my background is in accountancy, (I am a Chartered Management accountant by training)I often found myself coaching and mentoring clients. For the last three to four years have been working on business growth and start up support, coaching business owners and creating resources to help them. I sold my accountancy business to focus on this exclusively.
I have also mentored business owners on a voluntary basis, both for clients of the local Enterprise Agency and for accountants just setting up on their own.
I have worked in a highly corporate environment with SWEB, Prudential Property Services, Albright & Wilson and Imperial Tobacco, as well as with medium sized companie where I have worked at Board level, and with small businesses.
But working for others, I always felt there was more to life, the money was never enough to make up for the boredom, stress and lack of fulfillment. Eight years ago I left and set up my own business, and I have never looked back.
Like everyone else, everything wasn't right first time for me, I made mistakes, but I learnt from them , I also learnt the right way to do things and better ways to set up my business.
Now I work from home, invest in property, never have to work to other peoples deadlines or travel to suit other people, I can go to the gym in the afternoon if that's what I decide to do (or shopping, or sitting in the garden)
Over the years I have invested a lot of time and money learning from others, improving my knowledge and skills. I decided that I wanted to put that to good use and share it with others. I believe that while there is a wealth of information out there for people starting in business, and there are plenty of advisors clamouring to help you, what there hasn't been up to now is a way of getting everything in one place, at a reasonable cost and with coaching support as well if you want it.
That is why I wrote an eprogramme for people starting in business - StartUp 101, which has now also become the base for the One Year Coaching Programme.
I have also been a contributory author to the AVN book, Small Business, Big Difference; I have written three tips booklets including Secrets of the Succesful Entrepreneur. I have two more tips booklets in the pipeline. I also publish a fortnightly Ezine - also entitled Secrets of the Succesful Entrepreneur.
I work mainly with new and aspiring business owners to help them set up their business, develop and grow, become more profitable and run more effectively.
My clients frequently become my friends and I like nothing better than seeing them succeed in their business.
I also enjoy organising conferences and seminars - in my spare time!, and have chaired three national conferences for CIMA.
Last year I jointly organised the first ever UK workshop by US InfoGuru Robert Middleton.
I was also vice chairman of the CIMA Members In Practice group for a number of years and was voted Member In Practice of the Year in 2001.
